The Wonder Of Silk Stockings

Before I get into the meat of this article, which is about silk stockings, it’s probably smart to set aside some questions of terminology. First off, stockings and pantyhose are two different things. Stockings come in sets of two and only pull up to the mid thigh, or thereabouts. They either require a garter to be held up or they have elastic built in that grips the thigh and prevents them from sliding down. Pantyhose, on the other hand, come in once piece and pull all the way up to the waist. There are panties built right into them, although some women still choose to wear underwear with them.

Through the years stockings have been made from a multitude of materials. Long ago the first material used was simple woven cloth, but nowadays you can find stockings made from knitted wool, silk, cotton, or nylon. However, when it comes to fetishism you’ll rarely find men focusing on stockings made from anything but silk or nylon. These two fabrics are the only ones that have the signature softness that stocking and pantyhose fetishists crave. All of which brings me to the focus of this article, silk stockings. Nylon was first produced in 1935, and it was in fact created to be a cheaper synthetic substitute for silk, which is clearly not as easy to get a hold of. While nylon does a good job of recreating the soft feeling of silk, nothing is as good as the real thing, as anyone who has experience a high quality pair of silk stockings can tell you.

For stocking fetishists you are into it because they enjoy the feeling of the stockings against their skin or genitals, nothing can come close to replicating the feel of a pair of silk stockings. Their nylon brothers attempt to do the job, but you simply can’t beat the best. It also helps that the best stocking manufacturers in the world use silk as their material of choice. You’ll end up paying more for each pair, and they’re not as durable as the cheaper nylon stockings, but you’ll never go back once you’ve experienced silk stockings. In addition to feeling better against your skin, the silk stockings also have a shine to them that nylon can’t replicate. It’s almost as if they look more expensive, but that’s probably just a mental thing.

It’s a rarer fetish, but some men enjoy wearing stockings themselves. Most people would consider this dabbling in crossdressing, and I wouldn’t be inclined to disagree, but it’s hard to argue with these guys once you’ve rolled a pair of silk stockings up your legs.
